Con "Garbage Man" Spotted Throughout Brevard

Since the news of the con “garbage man” was released to the media, Titusville Police Detectives yielded approximately 50-75 phone calls from citizens stating that they have seen this person committing his act or knew of someone that fell victim to this scam.

Several of the phone calls from citizens came from all over the county, ranging from Melbourne, Satellite Beach, and Merritt Island.

If you do not live in Titusville and feel you have been a victim of this scam, you are urged to contact your local law enforcement agency to file a complaint.

The Titusville Police Department is seeking the assistance from the community to help identify potential victims of a fraudulent scheme that is being conducted throughout the neighborhoods of Titusville.

For several months or longer, an elderly black male has been approaching residents within the city and engaging in conversation by identifying himself as “Their garbage man”.

As he continues to engage the citizen in conversation he asks for money to get a piece of his equipment fixed so he may continue a “Job” he has in the neighborhood.

The un-suspecting Good Samaritan usually gives the money on a promise to repay but is never re-paid.

The black male is described as being in his late 50’s, approximately 6’2”, weighing approximately 215 pounds with short black hair.

Detectives with the Titusville Police Department are attempting to locate and identify more victims that have yet to come forward.

If anyone is a victim of this or knows someone that might have become a victim of this, they are urged to contact Detective Davies with the Titusville Police Department at 321-264-7835.
