One Dead In Titusville Taxicab Shootout


TITUSVILLE, Florida — Titusville Police Department received a report of a shooting which occurred in the area of 1165 Mockingbird Lane in Titusville, Florida at 1:55 a.m. this morning. 

A cab driver with Global Cab had picked up a passenger, later identified as 19-year-old Marize Simone Brooks, in the area of South Deleon Avenue and Maxwell Street in Titusville and was directed by the Brooks to an isolated area near 1165 Mockingbird Lane. 
Police say that the Brooks then shot the driver in the back of the head with a small caliber firearm.  The driver then armed himself with a handgun and returned fire, shooting and killing Brooks.
Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene.  The cab driver was transported by helicopter to a hospital trauma center for treatment and is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. 
Titusville Police have reviewed the case with Florida’s 18th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office in Brevard County.  No charges are pending.
