COCOA BEACH, Florida — Due to the 3rd Annual Bright House Space Coast Super Boat Grand Prix, segments of Minutemen Causeway (between Brevard Avenue and the “Beach End” of Minutemen Causeway) will be blocked off on Thursday, May 17, 2012 starting around Noon-time through 10:00PM to make room for a downtown “Power Boats on Parade” display area. There will be opportunities to meet the race teams during the downtown Cocoa Beach display. The event will have live bands, food, and drink. A VIP Party will also take place the same day at the Cocoa Beach Hilton from 6 to 10 p.m.
On May 18, the Space Coast Super Boat Grand Prix moves to the ‘Race Village’ on Dave Nesbit Drive in Port Canaveral, Florida for registration and inspection followed by a VIP Party in the Cove from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
On May 19, the boats will undergo inspection and testing in Port Canaveral. There will be live music in the Cove from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. A Miss Space Coast Super Boat Bikini Contest will take place at 4 p.m. in the Cove.
The first race Space Coast Super Boat Grand Prix will take place at noon on May 20, 2012, followed by a second race at 2 p.m. The race route begins at The Inn in Cocoa Beach and heads south to a first turn at Lori Wilson Park then back north for a second turn at The Cocoa Beach Pier, then back south for a finish at The Inn. An award presentation ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. at the Cove in Port Canaveral, Florida.
Due to the expected traffic congestion in the downtown area on the evening of May 17th, the location of the scheduled City Commission meeting has been changed to the Cocoa Beach Golf Club Auditorium, starting at 7:00pm.
