MERRITT ISLAND, Florida –  The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting that a 74-year-old Merritt Island woman has died as the result of injuries she sustained when hit by a 2000 Dodge Ram Truck on State Road 3 (2500 Block of North Courtney Parkway) near the intersection of Venetian Way in Merritt Island, Florida just after 9:00 p.m. last night.
FHP troopers say that 53-year-old Nicolas Charalambous, also of Merritt Island, Florida, was driving the truck north on Courtenay Parkway in the left travel lane when the elderly woman walked into the path of  the Ram while she was walking east across Courtenay Parkway.
FHP has determined that Charalambous attempted to take evasive actions to avoid a collision by swerving and braking, but the front of the truck struck the woman.
The FHP investigation concluded that the woman failed to yield the right of way of the truck.

The woman’s name has not been released pending next-of-kin notification.
