MIAMI, Florida – NOAA’s National Hurricane Center issued a Tropical Weather Outlook at 8 a.m. EDT on Sunday, August 18, 2019, that predicts a low (30%) chance of Invest 97L 2019 becoming a tropical cyclone off the coast of North Carolina within 48 hours.
Invest 97L 2019 NOAA Hurricane Model Projected Path
Invest 97L is a small low pressure system located over eastern North Carolina that is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
National Hurricane Center forecasters say that tropical development of the low is expected to be limited today due to its proximity to land.
By tonight, the low is expected to move northeastward over the Atlantic where some further organization could occur before the system encounters cooler waters in a day or so.
The low is forecast to produce heavy rainfall along with a threat of flash flooding in coastal portions of North Carolina through this evening.
The low has a 30% chance of tropical cyclone formation within the next 48 hours and within the next 5 days.

Spaghetti models are in strong agreement that Invest 97L will track northeastward along the North Carolina coast before entering the open Atlantic Ocean.
If Invest 97L becomes a tropical storm, the next name on the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane names list is Tropical Storm Chantal.
NOAA forecasts an ‘above-normal’ 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season which runs from June 1 through November 30.
