Will Hurricane Dorian Hit Florida?

Will Hurricane Dorian hit Florida? Well, that depends on several factors such as whether or not Hurricane Dorian 2019 will interact with the mountains and land on Hispaniola or stay over warm water between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico as forecast by reliable computer models.

As of August 27, 2019, NOAA’s National Hurricane Center forecasts that Dorian will track over eastern Hispaniola and weaken into Tropical Storm Dorian before reaching The Bahamas and Central Florida.

NOAA National Hurricane Center Tropical Storm Dorian Projected Path Florida

However, the official National Hurricane Center Dorian track and other computer models have repeatedly shifted northward over the last 48 hours.

If this trend continues, then the compact Hurricane Dorian might travel in the gap between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico and avoid substianial interaction with land.

Unfortunately, it is still too early to tell if Dorian will hit Florida as Hurricane Dorian  or Tropical Storm Dorian this Labor Day weekend.

By 11 a.m. on Wednesday, spaghetti models and the National Hurricane Center official track should have greater confidence as to Dorian’s projected path and corresponding strength when and if the tropical cyclone hits Florida.

Hurricane Dorian’s most accurate computer models show a landfall anywhere from West Palm Beach to Vero Beach to Cocoa Beach to Daytona Beach, Florida.
