Brevard County Commission Special Meeting Today To Discuss Reopening

VIERA, Florida – The Brevard County Commission will hold a special meeting today, Thursday, April 30, 2020, at 3 p.m. in the Viera Government Center to discuss actions in response to Florida Governor Ron Desantis’ Phase 1 Executive Orders that will allow restaurants and retail to reopen and elective surgeries to resume on Monday, May 4, 2020.

Currently, beach parking remains closed at County beaches and access to spoil islands is banned under County Commission ordinances in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Under the Executive Order, restaurants will be allowed to reopen at 25% capacity indoors and 6 feet social distancing between tables for outdoor seating.

Retail stores will also be limited to 25% capacity.

Other local governments have implemented plans to allow restaurants to place tables on adjacent sidewalks and other adjacent local government property to aid businesses with outdoor seating and social distancing.

Elective surgeries could resume, as clinically appropriate, on an outpatient basis.

Movie theatres, bars, gyms, hairdressers,  and other personal services will remain closed.

Schools will remain closed for the rest of the school year.

Visits to senior living facilities and hospitals will remain prohibited.

Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties are excluded from the reopening.
