The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit has charged 21-year-old, Robert Preston Brannon, of 1705 Marywood Road, Melbourne, with Burglary of a Structure and 2nd Degree Felony Murder. The arrest relates to his involvement in a July 11, 2011 burglary at 2105 North Shannon Avenue, Indialantic that led to the death of 32-year-old, Bobby Spires.
Brannon was transported to the Brevard County Jail, where he is being held on $200,000.00 bond.
BCSO officials say that Brannon was assisting Spires as he forcibly entered a locked shed located in the backyard of the residence, in an attempt to steal a large amount of marijuana that was being maintained in the shed. Brannon observed a person in the yard and fled the scene, leaving Spires behind. Spires received multiple stab wounds, eventually making his way across the street where he later died as a result of those injuries.
