Fire Investigation Under Way for Viera Home

Brevard County Fire Rescue (BCFR) firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 696 Carriage Hill Road in Viera at 7:21 p.m. yesterday evening.
Fire Rescue Crews continue to investigate the cause of a fire yesterday to a home in Viera.
Firefighters arrived at 7:26 p.m. yesterday and found a large volume of fire and smoke coming from the home’s garage.  Smoke could also be seen coming from the home’s roof and eaves.  Crews initiated an aggressive interior attack and performed a primary search for occupants.  No victims were located.

Nearly 30 firefighters from six stations responded to the call and brought the blaze under control at 7:54 p.m.  Overhaul and mop up operations began immediately.   A crew from Rockledge Fire Department assisted.

Neighbors told fire officials that the homeowners were out of town when the fire occurred and Red Cross assistance would not be needed.  The home is insured.  Investigators estimate that nearly ¾ of the home suffered extensive fire, smoke, and/or water damage.  A sedan and an SUV located in the garage were destroyed.  An estimate of repair costs and personal property losses was not provided.

Fire investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office are leading the investigation and will release their findings when finalized.  No injuries were reported and no other structures near the home were damaged.
