Shark Spotted Off Cocoa Beach
A shark was spotted by lifeguards at Shepard Park in Cocoa Beach this afternoon. The shark was swimming well off shore in the area of the northernmost lifeguard tower located on the park’s beach. Swimmers had to briefly remain out of the water until the shark disappeared.
According to the International Shark Attack File maintained by the Florida Museum of Natural History, Brevard County has had 101 attacks from 1882 to 2010. Only one of the attacks were fatal, which occurred in 1934.
