The Melbourne Police Department responded to the campus of the Florida Institute of Technology regarding an attempted robbery which occurred in the Botanical Gardens located between the campus and Babcock Street, and north of University Boulevard.
The Botanical Gardens are a short cut from the parking lot on Babcock Street to the campus.
Three of the college’s students were in the gardens walking to the main campus when approached by a black male.
He was wearing all black clothing to include a black hooded Jackie and a black bandanna covering his face.
He displayed a handgun and demanded the students to give them what they had. The students fled to the campus security office who notified the police department.
A thorough search of the woods using a police K9 and a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office’s helicopter was conducted with negative results.
There we no injuries reported during this incident.
