Cocoa Beach Selects New Fire Chief

The City of Cocoa Beach has selected Cocoa Beach Fire Department (CBFD) Fire Captain Ryan Duckworth as the City’s new Fire Chief.

The City Manager of Cocoa Beach said in a press release, “We have had a strong preference to hire from within and tap the talent we have been developing through training and education, coaching and management development. We had a strong applicant pool of four internal candidates from which to choose.”

Chief Duckworth has 16 years of fire service and has been with CBFD for the past 6 years – hired initially as a firefighter/paramedic and promoted first to Lieutenant and then to Captain/Shift Commander. Chief Duckworth holds an A.S. degree in Fire Science and an A.S. in Emergency Medical Services, is a fire instructor and a state certified fire officer (Fire Officer I and II).

Chief Duckworth was introduced at the November 17th Commission meeting and assumed the duties of Fire Chief on Friday, November 18th.
