COCOA BEACH, Florida — According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 39-year-old Dax Davis of Melbourne was driving his 1994 Corvette southbound on State Road A1A south of 36th Street South which was traveling at a much higher rate of speed than a Chevy pickup truck driven by 26-year-old Charles E. Leedy of Malabar when the front, right of the Corvette struck the rear of the pickup truck.
The force of the impact caused the pickup to travel off the roadway onto the west shoulder where it rolled over coming to a final rest on it’s wheels.
The Corvette continued to travel south onto the grassy median crossing over into the northbound left travel lane. The Corvette driver sustained critical injuries and was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center. The Florida Highway Patrol just released Mr. Davis’ name after his next-of-kin were notified.
Charles Leedy suffered serious injuries and was also admitted to Holmes.
There were two additional passengers in the pickup. 25-year-old Clarissa M. Darnell of Satellite Beach and 27-year-old Bradley A. Wallace of Pam Bay both suffered minor injuries and were admitted to Viera Hospital.
This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
