COCOA BEACH, Fla. — The City of Cocoa Beach Commission will consider banning alcohol from its beaches at the City Commissioner meeting at 7:00 p.m. tonight.
Titled “Beach Management Plan,” the Commissioners are requesting that the City Attorney draft an ordinance ahead of Spring Break which may include the banning of alcohol.
In the request, the Commission states:
“The beach is one of our most valuable resources in Cocoa Beach. It defines us…literally. Cocoa Beach has been incurring increased pressure on our beach from visitors wanting to enjoy what our residents live beside everyday.
In order to maintain and improve the quality of the beach for our residents and ensure our visitors enjoy the beach while enhancing our local economy a comprehensive plan is required.
Measurable goals of the plan include improved trash control, effective management of unsafe and/or disorderly behavior on the beach and throughout the City, a sustainable financial plan, promote stewardship and individual responsibility, increase compliance and enforcement, and ensuring that our residents enjoyment of the beach is not degraded by undue ordinance or irresponsible visitors.”
