Melbourne Police Search For Attempted Rape Suspect

MELBOURNE, Fla. — On February 8th at approximately 9:39 p.m., Melbourne Police officers responded to the Park Village Apartments in Melbourne regarding a report of an attempted sexual battery.
A woman was walking her dog in the complex when she was approached from behind by a male who grabbed her shirt.  The man demanded that she let go of the dog and afterwards told her he was going to rape her.
The woman started to talk to the man to distract him, and when doing so she stomped on his foot.  This action caused the man to let go of her at which time she began to scream and run towards her apartment. Once inside her aparment, the woman called 9-1-1.

Officers arrived on scene and immediately established a perimeter.  A police K-9 unit and the Brevard County Sheriffs Office helicopter known as STAR conducted a search of the area.  The search did not result in the capture of the suspect.

The victim was not injured during this incident.

The suspect was described as a White Male, 6’00 to 6’02 in height; 170 to 190lbs with a thin build.

The suspect was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt; dark pants; and black gloves.
 

Melbourne Police are advising that there are no other similar incidents in the area at this time.
