Police: Titusville Firefighter Poisoned His Lieutenant

TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA — According to the Titusville Police Department, Titusville Firefighter Lieutenant Phil Jones discovered a substance in his canteen on Thursday February 10th, 2012.  The substance smelled like a petroleum-based solvent.  Jones  notified his supervisors and the Titusville Police Department was notified.
Titusville Police Detective Jennings and Detective Cpl. Boyer were assigned to investigate the case.  The substance was tentatively determined to be “gunk” (aerosol cleaning substance) a substance clearly labeled DANGEROUS HARMFUL OR FATAL IF SWALLOWED.
During the course of the investigation, and interviews with interested parties, it was determined that the substance was just one more act in a series of acts targeting the victim over the past six plus months.

According to police, Firefighter/Paramedic Randy Moore admitted to several of the acts leading up to this incident and other acts committed against the victim by a fellow firefighter and to putting the substance in the canteen with another firefighter present.  He understood the potential consequences of the substance had it been consumed or ignited.  Moore said he did not want to kill the victim he was just upset over other issues and it went too far.

The incident occurred at Fire Station 10 located at 617 North Singleton Avenue.  The substance was placed in the victim’s canteen in his wildland gear bag which is used when they fight brush fires.  The substance is very flammable and could be fatal if swallowed.

Randy Moore was arrested at the Titusville Police Department at 2:45 P.M. and booked at the Brevard County Jail in Sharpes at 4:45 P.M.

Additional charges against the other firefighter are being reviewed.

Police say that the Titusville Fire Department has fully cooperated with investigation and due to an internal investigation being initiated at the Titusville Fire Department; Titusville Pollice will decline any interviews at this time pending conclusion of the Fire Department’s Internal investigation.
