COCOA BEACH, Florida – Tikis and palm trees are being installed at the east end of Minutemen Causeway in Cocoa Beach to officially mark the entrance to the popular public beach in the downtown area.
The idea of an “entrance” to this area was fostered by local resident Steve Ramsey who suggested the idea to City Commissioner Kevin Pruett. The idea was then incorporated into Commissioner Pruett’s “Beach Management Plan” on which he briefed the City Commission at their February 2nd meeting.
Local business owner George Artz donated the funding to pay for the creation of the six Tiki figures that were in turn made by Wayne Coombs. The six Tikis along with additional palm trees will provide an identifiable corridor and a ready access point to/from the beach at the Minutemen entrance.
