Waste Management Garbage Truck Runs Over Driver's Leg

MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — A Waste Management garbage truck was traveling East on Secluded Way in Melbourne, which is a private street within a mobile home park.

The driver of the truck, 52-year-old Richard Gilman of Cocoa, Florida, fell out of the truck due to an undetermined reason by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The garbage truck continued to roll eastward, running over Mr. Gilman’s left leg.  Mr. Gilman was able to climb back into the truck and bring it to a stop, but not before the right side of the truck struck a tree and then a flag pole.

Mr. Gilman was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center for the injuries he sustained during the accident.
