No Official Fox Day At Cocoa Beach Today

COCOA BEACH and WINTER PARK, Florida — Today is Fox Day at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.  The tradition of a randomly picked day during the Spring in which a statute of a Rollins Fox is placed on the lawn (although it was placed on the concrete walkway, causing some students to say that it should be placed on the grass) signifies to Rollins College students of a day off from school along with free pancakes.
In past years, the college students would make a trip to Cocoa Beach or Volusia County beaches.  However, the City of Cocoa Beach voiced concern when last year Fox Day participants became rowdy and left beer cans strewn along the beach at Sidney Fischer Park in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

“This year we have been informed by Rollins College administrators that they have planned on campus activities and trips to the theme parks in lieu of a college sponsored day trip to the beach.  As such, there is no organized Fox Day event at the beach,” said Cocoa Beach Assistant City Manager A.J. Hutson.   “Any students that come here for the day on their own will be expected to comply with all the laws and beach regulations that apply to the general public.”
