75-Year-Old Hits Home In Viera Golf Community

VIERA, Florida – A 75-year-old man was transported to Viera Hospital in stable condition after the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and struck a home near the intersection of Independence Avenue and Chesapeake Court in Viera this morning.  The intersection is located inside the Indian River Colony Club, a gated 55-and-older golf community.

Brevard County Fire Rescue (BCFR) crews responded to the scene this morning at 10:42 am after a 911 call reported the accident.  When crews arrived, the driver of the car was still inside the vehicle but did not have any serious injuries.   Firefighters were able to assist the driver out of the vehicle and perform a thorough evaluation.  He was transported to Viera Hospital in stable condition.

According to firefighters, the structure suffered extensive damage as a result of the accident.  It has not been determined whether or not residents of the home will be displaced while repairs are made.   The vehicle involved reportedly suffered only moderate damage.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, though officials say a medical condition may have contributed to the crash.
