MELBOURNE, Florida — The devout took part in a Good Friday Ecumenical Prayer Walk in solidarity with the poor and suffering of our community and the world. Members of many different Christian faith communities gathered at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 9:00 a.m. on Good Friday, April 6th, 2012, for the start of the 1 ½ mile walk.
The walk left Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and proceeded to Our Lady of Lourdes School where the faithful prayed for suffering children and the unborn around the world.
The procession then continued to follow a Cross to the Veterans’ Transitional Housing Facility and prayed for those who have been touched by the devastation of war.
The walk then went to Daily Bread where they prayed for the hungry, unemployed, and underemployed.
The next stop was His Place Ministries were prayers were read aloud for the homeless. The walk then went to neighboring rail road tracks where they prayed for those peoples’ lives who are suffering while they go through transition.
When the gatheingr made it to City Hall, the final stop before returning to Our Lady of Lourdes, a prayer was said which highlighted the “political systems and structures that widen the distance between those who have and those who have not.” The walk came to a conclusion just after 11 a.m. upon return to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
