KSC Engineer Arrested For Soliciting Prostitution

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Florida —  The Polk County Sheriff’s arrested 50-year-old Walter Schmitz of 132 Yacht haven Drive, Cocoa Beach, in a prostitution sting in the Winter Haven area on Friday, April 6, 2012.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Schmitz told detectives that he is an engineer for NASA.  He allegedly stated that he use to work on the Space Shuttle program, but since its retirement, he has been working on a program for its replacement.  Schmitz was charged with Soliciting Another to Commit Lewdness/ Prostitution.
“Those who solicit for prostitution should take note,” said Sheriff Grady Judd in a press release.  “We will not tolerate prostitution in Polk County.  The negative social costs of prostitution hurt families, children and communities.  Our detectives will continue to conduct these investigations – prostitution and solicitation for prostitution is a crime, you will be arrested and you will go to jail.”
A total of 29 suspects were arrested.

  • Maybe Sheriff Grady just wants to keep this crime and associated crimes out of Polk County. Prostitution is against the law and it is not up to Sheriff Grady to decide which laws should be ignored.If you think prostitution should be legalized then tell your legislator but expect Sheriff Grady to enforce the law.
