LAKE COUNTY, Florida — The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting that a motorcycle rider died as the result of injuries he sustained after hitting a deer in Lake County, Florida.
FHP troopers say that 57-year-old Bruce L. Pelish of Miramar, Florida was riding his 2002 Honda motorcycle north on State Road 19 in Lake County, Florida. A deer ran out of the woods from the west shoulder into the path of Pelish. Pelish’s motorcycle struck the deer causing his motorcycle to go down. Pelish did not survive his injuries.
Another motorcyclist, 58-year-old Robert Gomez of Hollywood, Florida, was also traveling north on State Road 19. Gomez’s 2009 Honda motorcycle then hit Pelish’s motorcycle after Pelish had gone down on the road.
Mr. Gomez suffered minor injuries, while his passenger, 45-year-old Lisa Gomez of Hollywood, Florida, suffered serious injuries, and both were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center from the crash site.
The deer also died from the impact with the motorcycle.
