PORT ST. JOHN, Florida — The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office says that five are confirmed dead after a shooting in the 7200 Block of Bright Avenue in Port St. John, Florida.
Around 5 a.m. today, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding the sound of shots fired from a neighboring residence.
When deputies responded to the scene, they found a female victim laying in the front yard. That victim was extricated from the immediate scene, and after being treated by responding emergency medical personnel, was pronounced dead at the scene according to Brevard County Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Tod Goodyear.
Just as the BCSO was establishing a perimeter, they saw someone briefly at the door of the residence, they then heard shots and put together two SWAT entry teams. “We always take steps to protect the deputies, but once we have an active-type shooter and have victims there, at that point is why we sped up to make entry.” Goodyear said during a 9:45 a.m. news conference.
After the SWAT team cleared the residence, they found four more victims inside. “We do not believe we have someone running loose. it appears that everyone [the victims] had a relationship to one another..We have no idea of motive,” Goodyear added.
Because some of the victims attended Brevard County Public Schools, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department has notified Brevard County Public Schools of the incident.
