PALM BAY, Florida — A 16-year-old boy is facing felony charges of aggravated assault after he threatened a school bus aide with what appeared to be a real shotgun. The teen was arrested at his home a short time after the incident occurred.
At approximately 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, Palm Bay patrol officers responded to 446 Freeman Road NW, Palm Bay, Florida after receiving reports of an armed person on a school bus. Patrol officers determined the incident occurred outside the home of a student who was being picked for school.
As the boy attempted to get on the bus carrying a portable play station, the bus driver told him he could not take the device on the bus. The boy entered his home and grabbed a toy shotgun that appeared genuine. He used the toy shotgun to threaten the bus aide who retreated back to the bus and fled the area. The boy was positively identified and he was taken into custody without incident. The teen was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
