FHP Trooper Dies in Haiti
MIAMI, Florida — The Florida Highway Patrol announced today that an FHP trooper has died in Haiti.
The FHP said in a media statement, “It is with deep regret that we inform you of the untimely passing of Trooper Jean Barthelus. Trooper Barthelus was shot and killed yesterday evening while in Port Au Prince, Haiti. The Florida Highway Patrol family extends our deepest sympathies and condolences to Trooper Barthelus’ family.”
FHP Trooper Barthelus was an 8-year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol. He joined FHP on December 6, 2004 and graduated from the 110th Basic Recruit Class on June 24, 2005. He was assigned to FHP Troop E based out of Miami, Florida.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, mother and several brothers and sisters. FHP says that no other information related to his death is available at this time.
