CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida — The strong offshore easterly winds have blown in a fresh wave of seaweed, the occasional coconut, and medical waste today.
Medical bottles, vials, glass containers, and other material can be found intertwined with the seaweed along the beaches of Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. The strong winds are also taking a toll on native seabirds who have succumbed to fatigue.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, Florida, prolongs winds today have been in excess of 15 miles an hour with gusts up to 20 miles per hour. The windy and rainy conditions are the result of a large weather system that is moving nortwestward across Florida from the Caribbean Sea.
