Schluckebier began work in Melbourne early in 2003 after lengthy service as city manager for Casselberry. He was selected by elected officials who considered candidates identified during a national search activity.
In Melbourne, he provided leadership as the economic downturn severely impacted municipal resources. “Over the last 10 years, the city has literally weathered a number of destructive storms. At the same time, we have been successful in adding to the community’s assets and city services,” Schluckebier said.
“During the past year, the City has achieved success in several important areas, including economic development, the improved ISO fire response rating, resolution of an impasse with the police union, and achieving the highest water quality in Central Florida,” Schluckebier noted.
Schluckebier has received generally high marks from the elected officials who supervise his work, and he saluted city staff for achievements during his career in Melbourne.
“I am proud of the quality of the city staff and their accomplishments despite a challenging economy,” Schluckebier said. “The city employees pulled together to reduce expenses and to avoid layoffs, preventing severe downsizing in the past several years that would be harmful to the community. The staff has been very successful in retaining the quality of critical city services.”
