ORLANDO, Florida — The Orange County Expressway Authority approved an increase in the rate of tolls beginning June 30, 2012 on State Road 528 (also known as the Beachline Expressway) which runs from Port Canaveral, Florida westward to I-4 in Orlando, Florida.
The newly-constructed Dallas Boulevard Mainline toll plaza pictured above, which is closest to the Brevard County and Orange County line, will increase from 75 cents to $1 for cash-paying motorists, but remain unchanged for E-Pass users. The additional revenue from the toll increase at this plaza is designated to go to the Florida Department of Transportation, not the Expressway Authority. The ramps at Dallas Boulevard will remain at 50 cents regardless of method of payment.
The East Mainline Plaza will increase from 75 cents to $1 for cash-paying motorists, and to 87 cents for E-Pass users. The additional revenue from the toll increase at this plaza is designated to go to the Orange County Expressway Authority.
FDOT stated in a letter dated March 21, 2012 to the Expressway Authority that Florida Statute Section 338.16 mandates that the Florida Department of Transportation index toll rates to the Consumer Price Index to adjust for inflation which must occur on or before June 30, 2012.
Brevard County residents can avoid hefty toll roads to Orlando by taking U.S. 192, State Road 50, or Nova Road. However, those routes take a little bit longer and consume more gas which is steadily falling toward $3 a gallon.
