Verla J. Dudley, 91, of Melbourne, Florida, died Sunday July 15, 2012.
Martha Ard Hartley |
Martha and Jack moved to Brevard County in 1956 where they raised three children. Martha was very involved in the welfare of her community, serving on fund-raising committees for The Brevard Hospital, The Brevard Symphony Guild, and other charities. She was a founding member and the first president of Melbourne Panhellenic and an active member of the Garden Club by the Sea. She attended Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for over 50 years.
Martha’s many interests included golf, travel, spoiling her Shelties, and vacationing at their mountain home in Highlands, NC, where they have many close friends. Martha was an enthusiastic bridge player and an avid reader, with a special interest in poetry. She was gifted at making friends and took great joy in those relationships.
Foremost in her life, however, was her love of family. She excelled at being a wife, mother, and doting grandmother and was thrilled to be an ever-present part of her grandchildren’s lives. She looked forward to and organized wonderful family vacations.
Martha is survived by her loving husband, Jack; her brother William Ard; her three children John, Melissa, and Bill; and her six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church at 10:00am, Saturday, July 21st. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Holy Trinity Memorial Fund (50 W. Strawbridge Ave, Melbourne, FL 32901) or The Health First Foundation (1350 S. Hickory St, Melbourne, FL).
