Dump Truck Hits SUV in Melbourne
MELBOURNE, Florida — At 10:21 am the Melbourne Police Department responded to a serious traffic crash involving a dump truck and a sports utility vehicle located at the intersection of Eau Gallie Boulevard (a.k.a State Road 518) and Guava Avenue.
According to witness accounts, the
SUV was attempting to travel southbound on Guava Avenue and cross the two westbound lanes of Eau Gallie Boulevard when it was struck broadside by the dump truck.
The SUV was driven by an 80-year-old man with an 80-year-old woman as a passenger. Both of the elderly accident victims were transported to the Holmes Regional Trauma Center and are reported to be in critical, but stable, condition. The driver of the dump truck was uninjured.
At this point in the investigation, Melbourne police say that it appears the
SUV violated the right-of-way of the dump truck. SIMILAR STORIES:

80-year-old? accident? that absolutely surprises me :O
Lets just hope they pull through and recover from their injuries and then take the license issue in hand. I would be more than willing to bet that this accident will cause the elderly gentleman to stop driving or quite possibly his license has already been revoked.
Fyi they are not in their 80s. Both are in their 50s. Don't base your judgement on a news report, they never know the full story. Both are wonderful drivers! But everyone makes mistakes, and they probably misjudged the speed of the dump truck. Your comment was unnecessary and rude with the condition they are in. I will pray that one day you will realize these comments are affecting the worried families of this couple.

Your comments should be directed towards the person who wrote the article. He's just responding to the info given in the news report. As for them BOTH being wonderful drivers, your statement doesn't jive with what happened. The guy used poor judgement and now is paying the price for his bad driving skills. He's proven to be a bad driver, not wonderful.
Actually they are in their 80's, I work with their granddaughter and they are in very serious condition. They will be lucky to pull through and no matter how old they are there is a family that is devastated.
