Free Italian-Themed Concert In Melbourne August 8-9

MELBOURNE, Florida – The sounds of Italy will fill the air when the Melbourne Municipal Band (MMB) presents the free “That’s a Spicy Meatball” concert on August 8 and 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Melbourne Auditorium, 625 E Hibiscus Blvd. Admission is free.
Dr. Dan Bolin, chair of the School of Music at Butler University in Indianapolis and a part-time resident of Brevard County, will lead the band as it explores the music of Italy, along with some of the popular songs made famous by Italian-Americans such as Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. In addition to such popular songs as “That’s Amore,” “The Lady is a Tramp,” and “My Way,” the group will play an old Italian overture written for band titled “The Universal Judgment.”
The program will feature Metropolitan Opera tenor Tom Studebaker in popular opera works such as “O Sole Mio” and “Come Back to Sorrento.” The concert finale will be a salute to America and to our veterans, including “God Bless America,” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”
“This will be a delightful evening for all ages,” said Dr. Bolin. “I’ve had the privilege of conducting the band the past two summers and we’ve had a lot of fun and great crowds. I think this year’s concert will be the best yet and hope everyone will come out to enjoy this great music.”
The concert is the last of the band’s summer Not-In-The-Park Picnic concerts and the audience is invited to bring family, friends and a picnic dinner to enjoy. Instead of traditional concert seating, long tables will be set up to enable a ‘dinner and show’ experience and audience members can bring along their picnic dinners. Drinks, ice and snacks will be available for purchase at the Concession Table.
There is no charge for the concert and tickets are not required. Doors open at 5:30. Call 724-0555 or visit www.mmband.org for more information.
