“In recent years, the City has added ground storage tanks and booster pumps to enhance the water distribution system,” said Ralph Reigelsperger, City of Melbourne public works and utilities director. “The improvements have rendered some of the elevated storage tanks functionally obsolete.”
Reigelsperger added that the work to identify a company to dismantle the tanks before the end of the 2012 will follow after the removal of antenna structures on the tanks by the end of August 2012. The City had leased antenna locations to cell phone companies and a radio station, but provided notice last year to those parties that the leases could not be renewed.
