2 Alarm Fire At Indialantic Church

INDIALANTIC, Florida — Brevard County Fire Rescue (BCFR) crews responded this morning for a commercial fire alarm at St. Mark’s Methodist Church, located at 2030 N. Highway A1A in Indialantic, Florida.  A call was received at 5:03 a.m. from the alarm company indicating a general fire alarm and water flow alarm inside the structure.

Truck 63 was first to arrive on scene at 5:08 a.m., with nothing showing from the exterior of the 19883 square foot, single story church.

Upon entering the structure, crews reported a light haze throughout the building.  A second alarm was struck for additional manpower and apparatus.  Firefighters performed a quick search and located a 10’x10′ fire inside.  The fire was quickly knocked down using a fire extinguisher and hose line.

With the fire out, personnel completed a search of the church and found it to be unoccupied.  Thermal imaging cameras were used to check for fire extension and hot spots.  Crews set up a series of ventilation fans to remove smoke from the church and minimize smoke damage.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and no estimate of damages has been released.  A fire inspector is en route to the scene to begin an investigation.  It is unclear at this time when that investigation will be completed.

Brevard County Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Jeffrey Taylor said that the following agencies assisted at the scene:  Melbourne Fire Department, Satellite Beach Fire Department, Indian Harbor Beach Volunteer Fire Department, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Power & Light.
