ORLANDO, Florida — The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting that 33-year-old Fernando A. Sanchez Santia, of Sanford, Florida, has died as the result of injuries he sustained in a crash when riding a motorcycle while being pursued by an Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy.
According to FHP, Santia was riding a 2000 Suzuki motorcycle on eastbound State Road 408 with another motorcyclist around 2:30 a.m. this morning. An Orange County Sherriff’s Deputy was attempting a traffic stop on the two motorcycles on State Road 408 eastbound just west of the Goldenrod exit. Both motorcyclists then allegedly fled from the Deputy east on State Road 408.
The Suzuki was traveling east on the exit ramp from eastbound State Road 408 to Goldenrod Road at a high rate of speed. Meanwhile, a 1990 Mitsubishi Galant was traveling southbound on Goldenrod Road in the outside lane.
FHP says that Santia failed to negotiate the curve at the intersection of Goldenrod Road at the bottom of the ramp. The Suzuki continued east at a high rate of speed and drove over the raised median divider. The front of the Suzuki then collided with the right-front of the Galant.
Santia was thrown from the Suzuki and he collided with the right rear of the Galant. After that crash, FHP says that the second motorcycle that had fled from the Deputy also came down the ramp at a high rate of speed, lost control, and caused a separate single vehicle crash.
