David R. Greiner, loving and devoted husband and father, died at the age of 87 on September 21st. He passed peacefully with family by his side. His sense of humor and love of family stayed with him until the end. He was preceded in death by his parents, F. Earle and Collette Greiner, to whom he was born on October 5, 1924, and by his brother, Eugene Greiner. David is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy (Knaus), his four children, Elizabeth Robinson, David Greiner, Julie Hall, and Robert Greiner, six grand-children, and one great grand-child.

Born in Syracuse, NY, David attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Immediately after graduating from North High School in Syracuse, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. During his military service, he served as a B-17 gunner in Europe during World War II, and a military air traffic controller after the war. Following an honorable discharge, he graduated from Le Moyne College in Syracuse with a degree in Economics. Dave and Dorothy were married on November 27, 1954. In addition to building a successful business constructing homes in the Syracuse area, he volunteered with Boy Scouts of America and the Central New York Homebuilders Association. David enjoyed golf and tennis, but his true passion was boating, in particular sailing. He belonged to several different sailing clubs on Skaneateles Lake in New York, and owned and raced several different sailboats over the years. As a Syracuse resident, David was a devoted, life-long fan of Syracuse University “The Orange” sports teams.
In 1981 he and Dorothy realized their dream of moving to Florida, starting in Satellite Beach and eventually moving to Indian Harbour Beach. Having come south too early to retire, Dave and Dorothy purchased and ran a business for several years. Dave also continued to enjoy boating and tennis during his years in Florida.

A memorial service is planned for 10 AM Monday, October 1, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church at 3050 A1A in Indialantic. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that consideration be given to contributing to The Daily Bread, a soup kitchen and resource center for the hungry and homeless located at 805 E. Fee Ave in Melbourne, FL, 32901.
