COCOA BEACH, Florida — Rain is forecasted today for the 2012 Cocoa Beach Air Show which is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. As of 8 a.m., it is raining in Cocoa Beach.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, Florida, deep moisture associated with a dissipating frontal boundary will combine with daytime heating and strong jet stream winds aloft to produce widespread cloudiness with numerous showers and scattered lightning storms today.
The main threats will be cloud to ground lightning and torrential rainfall amounts up two inches which could cause ponding of water on roads and in areas with poor drainage. Brief gusty winds to around 35 or 40 miles per hour in the most intense storms. The storm motion will be a slow eastward drift at 5 to perhaps 10 miles per hour. Today’s Cocoa Beach, Florida weather forecast: Scattered showers and thunderstorms before 8am, then a slight chance of showers between 8am and noon, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. Light northeast wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Tonight’s Cocoa Beach, Florida weather forecast: Scattered showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. East northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
As of 8 a.m., the Cocoa Beach Air Show has not said whether Saturday’s show is cancelled.

Even if the Cocoa Beach Air Show is rained out Saturday, it will also take place on Sunday. The main show will take center place at Lori Wilson Park. Cocoa Beach residents are admitted to a free viewing area with proof of residency. Non-residents can purchase tickets for $22.
