Attempted Child Abductions In Sebastian

SEBASTIAN, Florida — The Sebastian Department is investigating two suspicious incidents reported as attempted child abductions.

On Thursday October 25, 2012 at 5:17 p.m., the Sebastian Police Officers responded to 500 block of Wimbrow Drive in Sebastian, Florida because a parent reported a suspicious incident that had occurred on Wednesday October 24th.
The parent told police his 10-year-old daughter was riding her bicycle home from Sebastian Elementary on Sebastian Boulevard at approximately 3:45 p.m. and reached the intersection of Easy Street.
It was reported that a black male operating a unknown model two-door sedan, royal blue in color, pulled up next to her and said he was a “police officer” and that she needed to get in the car with him.

The black male driver was holding a silver star badge that appeared toy like according to the student. When the girl refused to get into the vehicle, the man left the area in an unknown direction.  The man was described as a black male, bald, blue shirt, possible medium build.

On Friday October 26, 2012 at 2:30 p.m., Sebastian Police Officers received a second complaint in the front lobby of the police station.  The 9-year-old girl’s mother reported that on Thursday October 25th at approximately 8:30 a.m., a black male attempted to abduct her daughter from the parent pickup line area at the Sebastian Elementary School.
When police interviewed the girl, she reported that a black male, approximately 40-years-old with a buzz cut, asked her to get into his car and pointed his finger and thumb as to imitate a firearm.  The black male was seen wearing a red, white and blue striped shirt and beige pants.
The girl then began to walk away and observed the black male get in to his navy blue 4-door medium size sedan, unknown model.  As the black male was driving away, the girl said that she believed that tag on the vehicle was from out of state – and observed that the first letter of the tag was a “K”.  The black male then proceeded north on Powerline Road.

Sebastian police detectives and officers continue to investigate these reports and are making contact with any subjects and vehicles that are similar to these descriptions.  The Sebastian Police Department is asking all parents and citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious persons, vehicles or acts by dialing 911.
