ORLANDO, Florida — The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting that a 71-year-old man from Orlando, Florida died as a result of injuries he sustained in a traffic accident on Goldenrod Road.
About 12:30 p.m. today, 24-year-old Paul Cassidy was driving a 2004 Chevy SUV southbound on Goldenrod Road in the right through lane. Meanwhile, Paul Rogus was walking on the sidewalk on the west side of Goldenrod Road.
At this time, FHP troopers believe that the Rogus stepped closer towards the road, leaned over, and attempted to pick up something in the road (a shiny piece of metal that resembled a dime that was embedded in the roadway.)
The front right of the SUV struck Rogus in the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
