Save Gardendale Elementary Magnet School |
VIERA, Florida — The controversial issue of Brevard County school closings is on the Brevard County School Board agenda tonight. The schools that will be considered for closing are Sea Park Elementary in Satellite Beach, Gardendale Elementary Magnet School in Merritt Island, Clearlake Middle School in Cocoa, and South Lake Elementary in Titusville.
Specifically, tonight’s meeting will address whether the School Board will authorize the Brevard County Schools Superintendent, Brian Bingelli, to advertise for a public hearing to approve the closures of Clearlake Middle School, Gardendale Elementary Magnet School, Sea Park Elementary School and South Lake Elementary School for the 2013-14 school year and the recommended attendance boundary changes to accommodate the school closures for the 2013-14 school year.
School Closing Proposals:

Save Clearlake Middle School |
If Clearlake closes, the proposal is to move the 470 students from Clearlake to Jefferson Middle School in Merritt Island and Space Coast Middle School in Cocoa.
If Gardendale closes, the proposal is to move the Gardendale students west of State Road 3 (Courtney Parkway) to MILA Elementary and Gardendale students east of State Road 3 to Audubon Elementary.
If Southlake closes, the proposal is to move the students to neighboring Oak Park, Apollo, Mims, and Coquina elementary schools.

Save Roosevelt Elementary School |
If Sea Park closes, the proposal is to move the students to Roosevelt Elementary in Cocoa Beach and Holland Elementary in Satellite Beach. Most Roosevelt students living north of Minutemen Causeway would then be bussed to Cape View Elementary in Cape Canaveral.
