NASA YouTube Video Goes ‘Gangnam Style’

HOUSTON, Texas — A YouTube video titled NASA Johnson Style (Gangnam Style Parody) has gone viral since the video’s launch on December 14, 2012 with nearly 1.8 million views.

The video published on the ReelNASA YouTube channel features a PSY singer look-a-like as the lead singer with NASA-logo t-shirted nerdy female backup dancers.
Among the parody changes from the original song lyrics, are “hey sex lady” to “hey science lady” and exploits NASA Johnson Space Center’s famous Apollo 13 radio call from “Houston, we’ve got a problem” to “Hey Houston, what’s the problem? It’s OK!”
A similar satirical NASA parody video titled “We’re NASA and We Know It” also went viral back in August 2012.
As noted by Brevard Times earlier, the viralilty of the NASA YouTube parody videos may just be modern day version of NASA’s continuing influence on American pop culture like Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me To The Moon which was played on the moon during the Apollo 11 landing.  A similar feat was done when NASA Mars Curiosity Rover transmitted the will.i.am Song in August.

NASA isn’t the only U.S. Government agency to produce Gangnam Style parodies, the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, and Merchant Marine military academies also produced their own video parodies.
