Dave's Hot Dog Stand Closes Today

TITUSVILLE, Florida — Dave Curfman, owner of Dave’s Hot Dog Stand in the middle of Miracle City Mall in Titusville, Florida has announced that he will be closing at 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013.

Dave’s Hot Dog Stand (otherwise known simply as “Dave’s”) has been an institution in Titusville for 44 years.  The business started as an Orange Julius in January 1969 which remained an Orange Julius for 25 years until the franchise expired.  The Curfman family then changed the name to Dave’s.  The Curfmans bought the Orange Julius from Bob Socks in October of 1977, but began running the Orange Julius in mid 1971.

Dave is hoping that in the waning hours of February 2nd, crowds of his supporters will come down to the Mall and show support for him and his family who have worked 7 days a week for over 40 years to serve the people of Titusville and North Brevard.

In 2011, Titusville residents came together in the form of a flash mob to support Dave’s Hot Dog’s, one of the then two remaining tenants in Miracle City Mall.  At that event, Robin Fisher, District 1 Commissioner and Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, said, “Dave’s is a Titusville icon. It’s really heartwarming to see our town rally around local businesses.  I personally hope to see more of these types of grassroots efforts invested in our town.  We’re really excited about the progress the Greater Titusville Renaissance citizen group is making on the redevelopment of Miracle City Mall and look forward to what that means for new business and the continued support of existing businesses, like Dave’s.”

JC Penney will also be closing that day and basically the mall will be closed.

  • Thanks Dave for the memories. Sorry the city council and government along with the property owners let you, JCPenney and the city of Titusville down again. Somethings never change. This city has scared away new business away for many years.Thank you for your contribution to the city economy and employment for students and families throughout the years. Martin Brenner

  • Another notch in the DEATH OF TITUSVILLE. One to go, the Moonlight Drive-In, then it should be complete. Some people want to promote the City as a Tourist Attaction, with the Claim of the Emma Parrish Theatre being Haunted -DREAMERS FOR SURE. Why not promote the City as the Space Coast First Total Ghost Town due to all the vacant buildings, and absolute no reason for any business to want to locate here. It won't be long and all streets/roads in Titusville will be designated One Way - Out of Town - for all the fleeing Citizens. Every member of the City Council should resign in SHAME for what they've done to this City.

  • To Anon: Actually, Titusville is probably the best place on Earth to live with the new Award winning 44 million dollar A. Max Brewer Bridge, the finest Indian River Citrus Groves there are (May Groves) for fresh OJ in the morning, and three new condo buildings on the river. It's quiet, clean, safe, and a happy place.
