Woman Shot In Face In Melbourne

MELBOURNE, Florida — On Saturday, March 30, 2013, at approximately 9:43 a.m. the Melbourne Police Department responded to Holmes Regional Medical Center in reference to a white female victim who received a gunshot wound to the face.
Officers arrived on scene and spoke with a witness who led police to 833 E. University Boulevard. Police say that initial information indicates the victim and another witness were at an apartment possibly involved in a drug transaction.
At some point, a black male suspect produced a firearm and shot the woman in the face.  The woman was transported by a witness to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida.

Melbourne police secured a possible apartment where the incident occurred.  It was unknown if the suspect may still be inside, so the Melbourne Police SWAT were called to the scene to make entry.  Once inside, SWAT cleared the apartment and investigators are currently conducting their investigation to retrieve evidence related to the incident.

Although this shooting occurred within minutes of another Melbourne shooting, police say that there is no connection between the shooting at this location and the one on Babcock Street.

The Melbourne Police Department is currently investigating this incident and more information may be available at a later time.
