Man Dead, Woman Seriously Injured In Merritt Island Traffic Crash

MERRITT ISLAND, Florida — The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a vehicle crash on Merritt Island has left one man dead and one woman seriously injured.


At about 9:15 p.m., a 21-year-old man and 20-year-old woman were in a 1995 Oldsmobile 4-door traveling southbound on North Tropical Trail near Hill Avenue on Merritt Island at a high rate of speed.  For reasons unknown, the Oldsmobile left the roadway and then struck several bushes, overturning multiple times.

The man and woman, both of Merritt Island, Florida, were ejected from the vehicle.


Brevard County Sheriff’s deputies closed North Tropical Trail between Crockett Boulevard to the north and Lucas Road to the south for several hours following the accident.
The man, Justin Craig, died at the scene.  The woman, Amber Keith, was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida.
It is still unclear to FHP Troopers as to which person was driving the vehicle prior to the crash.

According the the FHP crash report, neither person was wearing their seat belt and the accident was not alcohol-related.
