Two Men Killed While Fishing From Bridge After Struck By SUV

MELBOURNE, Florida — Traffic investigators from the Melbourne Police Department are currently investigating a vehicle crash where two people have died.

At 11:42 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to the east side of the Eau Gallie Causeway for a motor vehicle crash involving a Chevy sport utility vehicle and three men fishing off the relief bridge.

At this point of the investigation, police say that it appears the Chevy was traveling westbound on Eau Gallie Boulevard when the three men, who were on the north shoulder of the road, were struck.

Two of the men died as a result of the crash.  The impact of the crash pushed one man over the relief bridge wall and into the Indian River.  Brevard County Fire Rescue personnel went into the chilly water an assisted in retrieving the deceased man’s body while the Brevard County Sheriff’s STAR helicopter assisted in the search.

The man that survived the crash was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center and was last listed in stable condition. The driver of the SUV stayed on scene and has been cooperating with investigators.

UPDATE:

Police have released the names of those involved in the crash.  The two men who died were identified as 25-year-old Justin Laine Mitchell and Ronald Garrett Viccaro, who would have turned 25 on April 3.  Both men are from Indian Harbour Beach, Florida.

The third man who survived, but was injured, is identified as 41-year-old Jeffrey Forrest Vanreenen of Melbourne, Florida.

The driver of the Chevy was identified as 43-year-old Vincent Curtis Worbington of West Melbourne, Florida.
