MELBOURNE, Florida — The Melbourne Police Department announced today that, “in an attempt to provide accurate, updated information to the public,” the Melbourne Police Department is turning to the social networking site, Twitter.
MPD says that the goal of having a Melbourne Police Department Twitter account is to provide citizens and visitors of the city with information about crime trends, safety tips, road closures, emergency notifications and department events.
MPD cautions that, although the site will be updated regularly, it will not be monitored 24 hours a day. Therefore, anyone that needs immediate emergency police services is still encouraged to call 911.
