DESTIN, Florida — Five Florida fisherman pulled in 25 kilograms of cocaine from the Gulf of Mexico worth an estimated street value of $2.5 million.
The Okaloosa County Multi-Agency Drug Task Force is investigating the recovery from an area authorities describe as the “waters south of the Destin East Pass” – which is around the halfway point between Pensacola and Panama City, Florida.
According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the fishermen observed a large bale floating in the water and pulled it into their vessel. When the fisherman saw that it contained numerous individually wrapped packages, they contacted law enforcement. That’s when Florida state and federal law enforcement officers responded to the scene. The fishermen provided statements and turned the bale over to authorities.
