Mega Pet Adoption 10am-4pm Today In Viera

VIERA, Florida — Families looking for a new furry companion are sure to find their match during “Rescue Me,” a community mega pet adoption event, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at Viera Regional Park.

Brevard County residents can expect to see dogs and cats of all ages, sizes, colors and personalities.

“This is going to be huge,” said Karla Torpy, Brevard County Animal Services and Enforcement director. “We are so excited to have the opportunity to take our animals out into our community with an adoption event of this caliber. Our goal is to leave Viera Regional Park with only empty crates in tow. We’ve done everything we can to make sure all of Brevard knows about this so that every single animal gets to go home with the loving new family they deserve.”

Brevard County Animal Services, SPCA of Brevard, Central Brevard Humane Society, and other rescue groups are participating.

Adoption fees at the mega event are $25. That includes spay/neuter surgery and age-appropriate vaccinations. To adopt, citizens must be 18 years of age with a current driver’s license or photo ID and proof of current address. Those who rent are encouraged to obtain landlord approval in advance. It’s also recommended that potential adopters bring the entire family (including pets) to meet the future family member. Adoption counselors from participating organizations will work with families at the event in order to finalize adoptions on the spot.

Taco City and Mr. J’s Ice Cream and more food trucks will be at the event.

“Rescue Me” is sponsored by FLORIDA TODAY, URS Federal Technical Services Inc., Daphne Foundation, Brevard ASAP and FloridaNoKill.
