Fatal Crash At Eastern Florida State College

PALM BAY, Florida A 77-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the hospital following a mid-morning traffic crash at the entrance to the Eastern Florida State College Palm Bay campus, formerly known as Brevard Community College.
Just after 10:30 a.m., Palm Bay patrol officers and fire-rescue responded to the intersection of San Filippo Drive and Community College Parkway for reports of a vehicle crash.  According to witnesses’ accounts to police, the driver of a Mercury Grand Marquis which was heading north on San Filippo Drive ran the red light at the intersection with Community College Parkway and hit the driver of a southbound Toyota which was attempting to turn east onto Community College Parkway.
The driver of the Mercury is identified as David Costa.  According to City Palm Bay spokesperson Yvonne Martinez, it is believed he was having a medical issue that contributed to the crash.  The driver of the Toyota is a woman in her 20’s.  She is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation into the exact cause of the crash is ongoing.
