MELBOURNE, Florida — On Sunday, a group of Melbourne Police officers will be donning Starbucks aprons, in addition to their daily patrol uniforms, and serving coffee in the spirit of charity. These guest baristas will be at Starbucks (corner of Eau Gallie Boulevard and US1) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to raise money for Special Olympics Florida.
The Melbourne Police Department participates annually in raising funds for Special Olympics Florida through participation in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, t-shirt sales, Tip-a-Cop events and, most recently, a rib eating contest against the Melbourne Fire Department. Sunday’s event will be the first fundraiser that Melbourne Police and Starbucks participate in together.
“This is a great opportunity for our officers to interact with the public and raise money for a terrific cause,” said Melbourne Police Uniformed Patrol Commander Marc Claycomb. Anyone planning on driving to the event is encouraged to park in the lot on Cypress Avenue, across from the rear of Starbucks.
